Principles of Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is built upon a commitment to honesty, respect, fairness, responsibility, courage, and trust. Students are expected to complete their academic work independently unless collaboration is specifically authorized by the instructor. Every assignment, project, examination, discussion post, presentation, or assessment submitted for academic credit should represent the student’s own original work or properly acknowledge the contributions of others.
Students should accurately cite all sources, respect intellectual property, comply with instructor expectations, and conduct themselves ethically throughout all academic activities.
Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for understanding and following all academic integrity expectations established by MAI AIM Academy and their instructors. This includes carefully reading course syllabi, assignment instructions, examination guidelines, and institutional policies.
Students are expected to produce original work, maintain accurate citations, protect their own academic work from unauthorized use, seek clarification whenever assignment requirements are unclear, and report suspected violations of academic integrity when appropriate.
Students are also responsible for safeguarding their login credentials and ensuring that no other individual completes coursework or assessments on their behalf.
Forms of Academic Misconduct
Academic misconduct includes any action that provides an unfair academic advantage or misrepresents a student’s own learning or achievements.
Examples of academic misconduct include plagiarism, cheating during examinations or quizzes, submitting another person’s work as one’s own, unauthorized collaboration, copying assignments, falsifying research or academic records, fabricating data, impersonating another student, purchasing or downloading completed assignments, submitting the same work for multiple courses without instructor approval, altering academic documents, or assisting another individual in committing academic dishonesty.
Academic misconduct may occur in traditional written assignments, online discussions, examinations, presentations, research activities, group projects, laboratory work, or any other academic exercise.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is one of the most serious violations of academic integrity. It occurs when an individual presents another person’s words, ideas, research, creative work, data, or intellectual property as their own without proper acknowledgment.
Plagiarism may include copying text from books, websites, journals, articles, classmates, previous assignments, or artificial intelligence systems without appropriate citation. It also includes paraphrasing another author’s work without attribution, submitting purchased papers, or intentionally failing to acknowledge sources.
Students are expected to follow recognized academic citation standards, including APA 7th Edition or any citation style required by the instructor.
Cheating
Cheating includes any dishonest action intended to gain an unfair advantage during academic evaluations. Examples include using unauthorized notes or materials during examinations, accessing prohibited resources, communicating with others during individual assessments, obtaining examination questions improperly, sharing examination content, or submitting work completed by another individual.
Students must comply with all examination instructions and assessment requirements established by the instructor.
Unauthorized Collaboration
Collaboration can be an important part of learning when specifically authorized. However, students may not collaborate on assignments, examinations, or projects intended to be completed independently.
Sharing completed assignments, allowing another student to copy work, jointly completing individual assignments without permission, or receiving unauthorized assistance may constitute academic misconduct.
When group work is assigned, students are expected to contribute honestly and fairly while respecting the responsibilities assigned to each team member.
Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity
MAI AIM Academy recognizes that artificial intelligence technologies have become valuable educational tools when used responsibly. Students may use AI-assisted technologies only when permitted by the instructor and only in ways that support learning rather than replace original academic effort.
Students remain fully responsible for all work submitted for academic credit, regardless of whether artificial intelligence tools were used during preparation. AI-generated content should never be presented as entirely original student work when instructor expectations require independent authorship.
Whenever AI use is permitted, students should follow instructor guidance regarding disclosure, citation, attribution, and acceptable use.
The use of artificial intelligence to complete examinations, generate assignments without authorization, fabricate research, or otherwise misrepresent academic work may constitute academic misconduct.
Research Integrity
Students conducting research are expected to maintain the highest standards of honesty, accuracy, and ethical conduct. Research data should be collected, analyzed, interpreted, and reported truthfully.
Fabricating research findings, falsifying data, manipulating results, misrepresenting sources, or intentionally misleading instructors or reviewers violates both academic integrity and professional ethics.
Students participating in research involving human participants should comply with all applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements.
Academic Records
Students may not alter, falsify, forge, or misuse academic records, transcripts, certificates, identification documents, attendance records, enrollment documents, or other official academy records.
Submitting fraudulent documents during the admissions process or throughout enrollment may result in disciplinary action, withdrawal of admission, suspension, or dismissal from the academy.
Reporting Violations
Members of the MAI AIM Academy community are encouraged to report suspected academic integrity violations through appropriate academy channels.
Reports should be submitted honestly and in good faith. Individuals making reports should provide sufficient information to allow the academy to review the matter fairly and objectively.
All reported concerns will be reviewed confidentially to the extent reasonably possible while ensuring a fair investigation process.
Review Process
When a potential academic integrity violation is identified, MAI AIM Academy will review the available information carefully before reaching a decision.
Students may be notified of the concern, given an opportunity to respond, and allowed to provide additional information or clarification when appropriate. The academy is committed to conducting reviews fairly, consistently, and impartially.
Each case is evaluated individually based on the available evidence, the seriousness of the violation, prior conduct, and other relevant circumstances.
Possible Consequences
Violations of this Academic Integrity Policy may result in disciplinary action appropriate to the severity of the misconduct.
Consequences may include educational counseling, assignment revision, grade reduction, assignment failure, examination failure, course failure, academic probation, suspension, dismissal from the academy, revocation of certificates, restriction of access to academy services, or other corrective actions deemed appropriate by the academy.
Repeated or serious violations may result in permanent dismissal from MAI AIM Academy.
Appeals
Students who believe that an academic integrity decision was made in error may request a review through the academy’s established appeal procedures.
Appeals should be submitted within the timeframe specified by the academy and should include any relevant supporting documentation or information not previously considered.
Submission of an appeal does not automatically delay the implementation of disciplinary actions unless specifically approved by the academy.
Education and Prevention
MAI AIM Academy believes that education is one of the most effective ways to promote academic integrity. The academy provides guidance, academic resources, APA 7th Edition support, instructional materials, and faculty assistance to help students understand proper citation practices, responsible research methods, ethical use of technology, and expectations for original academic work.
Students are encouraged to seek assistance whenever they have questions regarding citations, collaboration, research practices, or assignment requirements.
Policy Updates
MAI AIM Academy may revise this Academic Integrity Policy periodically to reflect changes in educational practices, technology, institutional standards, legal requirements, or emerging issues related to academic honesty.
