A reference list provides detailed information about every source cited in your work. It allows readers to locate and review the original materials used to support your ideas.

At MAI AIM Academy, students are expected to include appropriate references whenever they use information, research, data, images, or ideas from other sources.


A reference list is the section at the end of an academic paper that provides complete details about the sources used throughout the assignment.

Every source cited in the paper must appear in the reference list.

Every source listed in the reference list must also be cited within the paper.

In-text citation:

Artificial intelligence can improve healthcare accessibility (Smith, 2025).

Reference list entry:

Smith, J. (2025). Artificial intelligence applications in healthcare. Academic Press.


The reference page should:

✓ Begin on a new page
✓ Have the title References centered and bold
✓ Use double spacing throughout
✓ Use the same font as the paper
✓ Be arranged alphabetically
✓ Use a hanging indent format


References are arranged alphabetically by the author’s last name.
